1 Coreless high-quality motors

SAEG series coreless DC motors are one of the most important member of proMOTION™ motion control products. Coreless DC motor is one type of DC permanent magnet motors, which is different from normal brushed and brushless DC motor because it adopts no-iron core rotor which is also called coreless rotor. A conventional motor has a steel core armature wrapped with with wire that spins inside the magnets.

In a Coreless design, the armature uses a thin wire mesh that forms a cup that spins around the outside of the magnet eliminating the heavy steel core. This design is much lighter resulting in smoother operation, faster response time, and higher efficiency.

2 Main features

SAEG series coreless motors have the following features:

As the winding is ironless with no slot effect, core loss (loss caused by induction current within the core produced by eddy current and heating) can be reduced considerably. With extremely high energy conversion efficiency, its normal energy conversion efficiency is typically above 75% and part of the products can be as high as more than 90%.

Low-inertia coreless rotor boasts of high acceleration and excellent dynamic response performance. The start-up, braking and response is so fast that the mechanical time constant is less than 28ms (many models) and some models can reach within 10ms. When the recommended operation area is in high speed operation, the rotating speed can be adjusted sensitively.

High power density: Compared with cored motor of the same power, its weight and volume can be reduced by 50% ~ 70%. Corresponding parameter curves of rotating speed-voltage, rotating speed-torque; torque-current and so on show very good linearity.

 

 

 

 

 

As an actuator widely used in robots, DC servo motor is the key components of all kinds of robots. Dozens of coreless DC brush servo motors with diameter of 16mm~62mm, voltage 3-48v, and rated power 0.3W to 225W and matching spur gear reducer, planetary gear reducer and rotary encoder are available in ProMOTION™ SAEG series. A coreless DC servo motor combination with power of 0.3~225W, reduction ratio1:3~1:4000 and encoder 50-2048 can be formed by referring to the combination system described in the motor selection pages(Click to enter).

Some SAEG coreless DC servo motors are close to or have surpassed the similar motor of world’s top brand in terms of power density and performance. Its rotor can withstand temperature as high as 150℃ (when specified). The connection between rotor and high-precision axle adopts mechanical fixing and NdFeB magnets is adopted as the permanent magnet stator which enables very large power output with small size. For example, 28SYK53 can output the rated power of 25W, and 36SYK71 can output power of more than 200W within short time. This character makes motors of this series suitable for robot with small-size and high power or high torque.

3 Typical applications

Its features of high power density and high dynamic response make it also suitable for medical appliances, precision instruments and so on.

Manufactured by stainless steel, the rated output torque of SAEG planetary gear reducer can be 0.5~100Nm. It is characteristic of low noise, stable operation and cost-effective price.

User can also combine excellent ProMOTION™ BDMC DC servo driver of UPTECH robotics with ProMOTION™ SAEG motors to form an ideal DC servo system.

5 Gearheads

Matching reducer of SAEG motor can select planetary gear reducers or spur gear reducers (gear heads). The characteristics of spur gear heads are as follows:

l         High efficiency: 90%~97%
l         Shorter length and lower price
l         Lower rated output torque, when compared with planetary gear heads
l         Suitable for matching with precious metal brush motors

The characteristics of planetary gear heads are:

l         High efficiency: 60%~90%
l         Longer length and higher price
l         Higher rated output torque, when compared with spur gear heads
l         Suitable for graphite electric brush motors
l         Planetary gear head type A is made from stainless steel and with highest output torque
l         Planetary gear head type B is made from compound material of economic carbon steel and engineering plastic, which is with higher efficiency and lower price
