1 What is robot servo?
The concept of robot servo originates from the improvement of R/C servos.
The R/C servo, having the function of position control, has been extensively adopted in a variety of education and entertainment robots for a long time on the grounds that it is characterized by high integration, highly standard world widely, easy to control, low price and so on.
However, it is, after all, originally designed for R/C hobbies. If used as the robot joint actuators, it has such obvious disadvantages as low control accuracy, no feedback, failure of complete rotation, slow response and cable clutter.

UPTECH Robotics has recently launched the proMOTION CDS series of robot servo, aimed to solve most important problems caused by R/C servos in robot and simutaneously inheriting most of the advantages of them.
2 Characteristics (compared with R/C servo)
CDS5516 robot servo
l High position accuracy. Thanks to advanced position sensor and precise A/D converter, the position resolution in position-mode can be up to 0.3゜
l Fast response. The respose time is up to 2ms contrast a 20ms of traditional R/C servo
l CDS series robot servo can be linked by serial bus, which can connect up to 200+ servos. Each unit can feedback its position, rotation velocity, torque, current, motor temperature and so on. The robot built with robot servos can set actions through artificial demonstration, that is, the user can regulate the robot’s joints posture with hands and the robot can record the parameters like location, speed etc. Then, it is able to automatically play them. So there is no need to set position, velocity parameters of each joint and observe whether the joints right in place or the parameters are appropriate. You just need play and record.
l It can rotating all round, and the velocity can be controlled, just act as a gear motor. This feature enable it work as a motor of wheeled robots, or tracked robots.
l Robust self protection built in. CDS series robot servo can send alarm signal via the serial bus, or shut down output in condition of over current, over temperature and so on.
3 Characteristics (compared with Robotis AX12+)
CDS5516 robot servo

l High operation velocity. The maximum rotate speed of robotis AX12+ is 50RPM while UP-TECH CDS5516 is around 62RPM.
l Position PID(Propotional, Integral, Decimal) regulators, PID tunalbe

l Acclaration and current limit adjustable
l Trapezoid position profile or S-curve position profile, smooth operation
l It is compatible with the size and port of traditional R/C servo. CDS5516 servo has the same profile,same dimension,same flange and same output shaft, compared to standard R/C servos. You can upgrades the standard R/C servos on you robot with CDS5516.
l In compatible mode, CDS5516 servo can accecpt R/C servo signal, act as a R/C servo.

l Full function CDS_tune software. Virtual olliscope for tune and testing
l Lower price. the retail price of CDS5516 is 60% of AX12+.
